'Concern Fast' Youth Ambassadors

On Friday 24th November Eoin Duffy, Community Fundraising Executive for Concern Worldwide visited Cross and Passion College.

Eoin was in School to train 14 of our Year 13 pupils to become Fast Youth Ambassadors. This is a wonderful opportunity for our young people to represent this internationally renowned charity.

As part of the training session Eoin gave our pupils an insight into the work of Concern. Concern Worldwide works with the world’s poorest people to tackle hunger and transform lives. We were reminded that hunger affects everything for the world’s poorest people. Concern are working for a world where no one dies for want of safe, nutritious food. Concern’s approach focuses on practical, intelligent solutions that save lives and build livelihoods.

The places where Concern work are often at greater risk from disasters, both natural and man-made. In an emergency, we learned that Concern acts quickly to save lives, then they stay to work with communities, rebuilding lives and livelihoods to ensure people are better prepared for future crises. We learned that at the heart of Concern’s approach is how they enable families to tackle hunger and work their own way out of poverty.

Approaching their 50th birthday Concern are well aware that they won’t solve the problem of hunger alone. In a world where one in nine people go hungry every day change is needed on a global scale. Concern therefore realize the importance of working with the next generation, hence their 'Youth Ambassadors Programme'. This is not only a way to tap into the energy and resources of our young people but also encouraging our young people to engage with the wider world and give our youth a voice and platform in which they can make a difference.

CPC really value this opportunity to work with Concern and be given this insight into their work. Our pupils will learn a great deal about Concern’s advocacy and campaigning work and how Concern bring their practical experience to bear on national and international policy.

Watch this space as our Concern Fast Ambassadors work to build a more just and caring world.
