Sports Specialism

Cross and Passion College was designated as a Specialist College for Sport in September 2007, recognising us as a Centre of Excellence for Sport and PE.

Through the Specialist School Programme we are challenged to promote excellence across all areas of the curriculum. Being a specialist school enables us to form partnerships in the community with local schools, community groups and businesses.

Cross and Passion College is also a centre of excellence for learning and teaching. As a Specialist School, we are members of the Specialist Schools and Academies Trust and INET. These organisations provide access to the latest professional development opportunities through a worldwide network of Specialist Schools.

Excellence in PE and Sport

Our designation as a Specialist School for Sport is a recognition of our considerable record of success in this area. This includes the taught general PE programmes, the GCSE and A-Level courses and the extensive enrichment programme we offer to pupils.

Although we are noted for our success in Hurling and Camogie at all ages, many young people proudly represent our school in team games such as Netball, Basketball, Soccer and Gaelic Football. The extension of sporting provision to include a range of individual sports such as Swimming, Dancing, Badminton, Golf, Bowls and Table Tennis is a key strategy to promote more pupil participation in physical activity at all levels.

Our school has an extensive range of sporting facilities and resources, including:

  • Sports Hall
  • Gymnasium
  • Fitness Suite
  • Outdoor Basketball Courts
  • Outdoor Tennis Courts
  • All Weather Pitch
  • Grass Pitch
  • Handball Alleys

Sports Specialism enables us to provide a quality Physical Education programme for pupils at all key stages supplemented by an extensive range of extra-curricular activities which offer opportunities for pupils to participate in Sport at recreational and competitive levels. In addition it provides opportunities for pupils to follow accredited courses in PE, Leisure Studies and a range of other award bearing courses, as well as a programme for gifted and talented athletes.
